My November Novella Challenge Reading List

november novella challengeOne of the things I forgot to tell you guys about novellas, is that they are often ridiculously cheap.  I’ve been collecting some for this challenge recently, and bought some used for as little as 48 and 98 cents, and new for 2 and 3 dollars.

I got so excited, I ended up getting more than 8, including ones I already had.  But I decided to make a list of 8 novellas, and join at Level III.  Maybe I’ll upgrade to the As Many As You Freakin’ Can level, or maybe I’ll save some for next year.  :)

Here’s my list so far:

The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Country of the Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett
Old Rosa by Reinaldo Arenas
Seize the Day by Saul Bellow
The Body Artist by Don DeLillo
The Dream Life of Balso Snell by Nathanael West
Alexander’s Bridge by Willa Cather
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James

This might be the first list I’ve made that has no cross-overs with other challenges.  Though I may end up counting Turn of the Screw for the RIP Challenge or Hound of the Baskervilles for the Back to School Challenge.

Some of the ones that I bought new cheaply, I bought extra copies of for give aways.  But you’ll have to wait and see which ones those are!

I hope this list inspires you!

Nothing to do with the novella but I also visited a second hand book shop (only the second one I have discovered so far in Colombo) and bought nine books. I have always to go back to the classics and went for those including two Shakespeare’s. So I have a pile of books awaiting me. I was also very lucky yesterday. A niece of
mine gave me a Vikram Seth and a James Patterson. Brand new. She said she found both heavy going but me I am ready for anything.

I recently tried to start “Turn of the Screw” (it’s available online), but all of the commas in the first sentence made me start laughing. I’m not sure I can stick with such long, drawn out sentences. LOL
