Read-A-Thon: Post the Wrap-Up & Meeting Bloggers IRL

book_bloggersWell, I did it.  I made it to the end of the ‘Thon.  I have no stats to show for it because I didn’t really keep track.  This post is mostly just to say that I survived, and talk about what I did the rest of the day on Sunday.

My husband woke me up at 9AM.  He said he was going out and did I want him to bring me back a coffee or tea.  I was so out of it I kept asking him where he was going, but he wouldn’t tell me.  So, I got up to make myself some tea because my throat hurt, with the intention of drinking it and going back to sleep.

But then my husband came home with…Doughnuts!

I have to back up for a second and say that when I had told him on Saturday that I wanted doughnuts after posting about it, he asked me how my diet was going.  So, the fact that he went and got me some was extra special.  :)

Around 1 PM, I dropped him off at his co-worker’s house where some guys were gathering to watch football, and I headed over to the Seattle Book Fest.  I wandered around in sort of a tired stupor and bought a few books.  At 3:30 I was to meet Kristen M from We Be Reading and some other bloggers outside of the book swap.  Around three, I went to the book swap to buy some used books.  I was so tired at this point that I got really confused when I was paying one of the volunteers running the table.  First of all, I was getting five books.  All of the books there were $1.  I got really confused when I gave the girl a five dollar bill and she gave me back a single.  Perhaps it was 5 for 4 dollars?  I’ll never know.  But I recounted my books, and said, wait a minute, I have six books here.  The girl looked at my stack and said no, that’s five.  I was counting the flyer she had placed on top as a book.

So, I explained that I hadn’t had much sleep as I’d been doing this 24 hour Read-A-Thon and the woman standing next to me, asked, “Oh, you mean Dewey’s?”  Now, here I am amazed at my powers of reasoning considering how tired I was.  I asked her if she was there to meet Kristen.  She said she was, and it turned out to be Robin from A Fondness for Reading.

Since we had about half an hour, I decided to go back through the book fest to see what I’d missed so I parted with Robin.

At 3:30 PM, we all met up outside the book swap.  Literally.  The whole shindig was at an old school, and the book swap was out in one of those portable classrooms.  So, we stood outside.  It wasn’t raining, but it was kind of wet.  I didn’t mind the cold until the end of our time, and then I greatly regretted it the next day when I found myself back in bed with my cold.

The picture above is of us, standing around.  There wasn’t anybody close by to ask to take our picture, so we took a self-photo of sorts.  From the top, going clockwise, is, Celia from Adventures of Celia Bedelia, Me, Kristen from We Be Reading, Robin from A Fondness of Reading, and Lena from Save Ophelia.  We hope to meet up again, preferably indoors, and with more bloggers.

We talked about bloggers, blogging, books, challenges, and I told them my Big Secret of what’s inside the box.  Considering they said that they’d be willing to walk over to my house for it if they won, I think you will all be pretty excited when I reveal its contents!

Oh I’m so sorry you ended up with a cold. I didn’t realize how cold it was while we stood and talked (warm company!), but I was frozen when I got home and it took hot tea and a blanket to warm up again! Take care of your cold, and I hope we can meet again soon.

We could have moved inside, I feel terrible that you’re stuck with another cold!

And I’m still holding to my promise of coming to your house to pick it up if I win. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! :)

How fun to get together. I think I know through blogging about 7 Minnesota Book Bloggers now. I would love for us to meet but life has been so crazy lately that I have not had time to wrap my head around that idea. :)

Maybe by next summer I will have built up those relationships. i think that would be cool.
