Read-A-Thon: Post #4

Evangeline-Lilly-4-HHISK9GKPQ-800x600Why am I posting a picture of Evangeline Lilly on my blog?  For a mini-challenge, of course!

Mini Challenge #1 (of this post)

We’ve been asked to pick a book–our favorite book–and decide who should play the lead in a movie.

My favorite book is White Teeth, and I have no idea who I’d want to play whom in that one.  Britishy people.

So, instead, I will just tell you about this thing that was interesting at first and the PLAGUED me about 8 months ago.  I started to picture characters as particular actors.  And what’s more, they tended to be actors from LOST.

I pictured Evangeline Lilly as the main characters of both Frozen Tears and The Lace Makers of Glenmara.  And granted, their names were Kale, and Kate, respectively, so that might have something to do with it.

But I also pictured Naveen Andrews as the main character in Midnight’s Children and Kal Penn as his grandfather (as a young man).  If you’ve read Midnight’s Children, then you know that this works because of the nose thing.

This has kept up on and off since then–particularly, as I said, with actors from LOST.  I worry that I’ve just lost my ability to imagine faces I haven’t already seen.

Mini-Challenge #2 (of this post)

Somewhere in there, we were also ask to name our favorite couple from a book who started out as friends.  That’s a no-brainer: Ron and Hermione.  Good thing, too, because my brain is a bit fried at the moment.

Mini-Challenge #3 (of this post)

I’m getting a little bit loopy here (already?!) but I’ll take a stab at writing a little story, using at least ten book titles.  I will try not to stray from my reading list.

Elynia knew that it was finally time.  It was time to take The Stand.  The Season of Mists had come to the Matterhorn, and it was up to her to lead The Army of the Republic.

Of course, it wasn’t so simple as that.  On the First Night, The Wednesday Wars began.  By the Twelfth Night of battle, all hell broke loose.

Elynia turned to The Namesake for guidance.  He told her of his Dreams of Sex and Stage Diving.  Through this parable of the Gnostic Gospels she was able to understand what she must do.  It was The Passport that would eventually gain freedom for Matterhorn, and bring Perfect Peace to the land.

But unfortunately, it would be a some time before The Titan’s Curse was lifted.  Elynia had much to consider, to plan, during The Long Walk Home.

Now, back to the books!

How are you doing, J.T.? You still hanging in there? I am so tired. If I wanted to go to sleep, I would be wide awake and full of energy. But when I want to be awake, even pumping caffeine into my veins doesn’t help. Bah. How much have you read so far?

Sounds like a great book and looks like you picked just the right person.

Keep up the great reading and keep going at these mini-challenges, looks like you’re doing great!
