FreeVerse: Song of the Open Road

freeverse17Sorry there was no FreeVerse last week.  I sort of just forgot.  But in my defense, Cara, the FreeVerse hostess, has been haitusing again, and there was no FreeVerse linky.

Actually, there’s none today, either.

But still!  The poetry must go on!

The thing I like most about Ogden Nash is his name.  For real.  If he didn’t already make that name so famous, I’d consider changing my name to Ogden Nash.  Ogden can be a girl’s name, right?

Ogden Nash is mostly know for his quick, satirical rhymes.  You know, besides having an awesome name.

This particular poem was written in response to the famous “I think I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree” by Joyce Kilmer.

And it totally reminds me of:

“Song of the Open Road” by Ogden Nash

I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovely as a tree
Indeed, unless the billboards fall
I’ll never see a tree at all.
