NaNoWriMo: I’m Doing It

nano_09_blk_participant_120x240.pngI only finally decided today, the first day of National Novel Writing Month, that I’m going to participate.  I signed up and everything.

For those of you not in the know, this month over 100,000 people around the world will try to write a 50,000 word novel.  I’m going to be one of them.

I’m fucking scared as Hell.

With a small dash of giddy.

The idea is to produce.  To produce anything.  It’s quantity over quality.  With that in mind, and because the novel I really want to write, I think will be something more like 150,000 words, I’m going to a second idea that more than one person has suggested to me.

So, a little bit of background first, about how this is sort of based on my own life.  I have this thing that I started around Labor Day last year called 100 Fridays.  I want to have 100 Fridays before I have kids.  A Friday only counts if it is an actual Friday.  It only counts if I go out or have people over.  So, if I just go out with my husband to see a movie, it doesn’t count.  If I stay in on Friday and go out on Saturday, it doesn’t count.  As of this weekend, I have 73 to go.

So, a lot of people have told me I should blog or write a book about this.  Frankly, I don’t want people to know all of the details of me getting drunk and running home in my bare feet (to use a mild example).  But, I wouldn’t mind fictionalizing it.  So, I’m going to write my novel in the form of a blog, which has posts detailing the narrator’s Friday night exploits and deals with over arcing themes of growing up, balancing careers and family, death, growing older, fidelity (here especially is where it starts to get fictionalized!!!), etc.

The funny thing to me, is that this sounds like a chick lit book, and that’s a genre I rarely read.  So we’ll see how it goes.

Wish me luck!

GOOD LUCK! I admire your leap and wish you every success. I love your idea.
One of the things I have been working on has a basic premise that sounds like chick-lit, which isn’t a genre I read much of either; it’s funny how these things happen but it is the quality of the writing that defines it.

    Enjoy!

Hey, I know exactly how you feel! I signed up too and I’m scared shitless. At least you have a semblance of an idea…I’m still kicking mine around and it started today! Oh well…nothing ventured, nothing gained. This business about writing 1667 words a day in order to finish…I don’t know about that. Some days I’ll have to do a marathon writing session and write more than that…LOL!

I wish you luck, girl…and to myself! I know for sure that I’m going to need it!

    P.S. I like you idea!

yay! Great idea! Can’t wait to read about your progress! I guess I get secret joy reading about writers agonizing about their art!

Wonderful! I’m doing NaNo too. I’m sandara_bc over there. Buddy me, if you want a cheering section.

I’ve never done NaNoWriMo before, so I’m as terrified as you are – or maybe more so. I like your story idea. Have fun writing it -

I’m doing it too. Only 300 words in at the moment.

I go by Endaewen on the NaNoWriMo site btw.

Just so you know, once you’ve tried NaNoWriMo, you’ll keep coming back and doing it again (says the person who’s only done it through once before).

I really love your idea for your book and hope we maybe get a glimpse into this fictional blog ;-)
I’ve signed up again (for, I think, year 4), but now that day 4 is over I’m still at 200+ words. I really need to get some writing done!
