The general rule for judging the longest bridge is the length of the span, so the according to this rule the winner is the Akashi Kaykio Bridge (1991 Meters - 6532 Feet), but Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana is the listed in Guinness Book of World Records as the longest bridge at 23 miles 1538 yards.

We have a friend who is so afraid of bridges of any type that she will go miles out of her way to keep from going over a bridge. Since we live near Pittsburgh that is a little difficult to do. Her response, when she has to go over a bridge, is to lay on the floor of the vehicle with her eyes tightly closed. Needless to say, she isn't driving during those times :>)

Hi, I am a newsletter receiver. I have to teach bridges. I always start with The Tacoma NArrows Bridge. It is fascinating. The bridge swayed and collapsed and the only casualty was dog.

Well i'm from Michigan and i chose the Mackinac Bridge since you already had the Ambassador bridge :D

There is a really cool picture i wanted to share. It's of the Mackinac Bridge when it's lit up at night. I've been there and i have to say its amazingly beautiful. Some facts: its the third longest suspension bridge in the world. It opened to traffic on November 1st, 1957. It is 5 miles long. There are 1,016,600 steel bolts used. It employed 3,500 men at the bridge site to take part in the making. Now thats a lot of men and a lot of jobs!

I posted the picture in my blog along with my post (+3):

thanks!
