A Bittersweet Give Away

Jamie-Ford_9780345505330-225x300O.K., there’s good news and bad news.

Good news: Ballantine Books has offered to give away a copy of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet to a reader of Bibliofreak.

Bad news: Because the book is coming from the publisher, this is open to US/Canada residents (and probably no P.O. boxes) only.

Good news: I don’t have to pay for shipping.

Bad news: Actually, I can’t think of any more bad news.  It’s all pretty good, so long as you’re a Yank or Canuck.

Oh, here’s some bad news, I’m going to make you answer a question to enter: In the book, grown up Henry, the main character, is searching for a record, either the original one he had, or another copy, that he had as a kid.  Is there anything from your childhood that you wish you had back?

I can’t think of anything myself, but I’ll tell you a funny little story.  My aunt found this breadbox with a rooster on it that my Grandma had growing up on E-Bay and she bought it and was all excited about it.  Then her brother tells her that he had had the original breadbox in his barn for a while now.

Lets make this really easy and say the contest will go for 1 week, so you have until the 27th.  Yes, I know that that is actually 8 days because today is the 20th.  But the 27th has already been decided upon.  Therefore, you have until midnight PST on the 27th to enter, and I’ll announce the winner the next day.

I wish I had Legos. I always went by the instruction manual. I should have kept and collected them all to make my own creations. Then again, I might not have the time or patience to see that it’s built to scale.

I have had this one on my list. As for an item, I’ve actually already gotten it back. When my gramma died, her big armchair was donated to goodwill. After moving from one goodwill to another, a neighbor bought the chair to have reupholstered. They gave up on that and tried to sell it at a yard sale. When it didn’t sell, they put it on their porch to be picked up by Purple HeArt. When my cat got out, I went nextdoor to see if they had seen her – and lo and behold, found the chair. It moved to NY with me and is now finally being recovered.

I would like to have my baby pictures and my elementary school yearly class photos. All was lost in a fire long ago.
