Talking About Zombies & Angels on Slog
Recently I reviewed Zombocalypse Now by Matt Youngmark on Slog, The Stranger’s blog. My conclusion was:
Overall, Matt Youngmark is no Max Brooks. But this is a good book to have around, either in your bathroom or next to your bong.
But I did give a few details about what I learned about the Zombie Apocalypse. You never know, these things might save your life.

Yesterday I wrote about Seattle’s second annual Spirituality Book Festival. You guys know how much I geek out over religion, and yet it surprised even me just how much of a nerd I felt going there.
I caught a reading from the editor of Image Quarterly, and Kathleen Norris (whose book Dakota I have reviewed on this site).
Norris was awesome. Here’s me, talking about her:
In Acedia & Me, Norris talks about the unexpected angels we meet—”angels” in the sense that they say the right thing at the right time, or that say the thing we really need to hear. The example that Norris gave from her own life happened in the late ‘60’s in New York. After meeting some drag queens at a book launch, she went with them to a deconsecrated church turned gay juice bar called Sanctuary in Hell’s Kitchen.
Of course, that got some snarky comments about drag queens and about angels, but that’s just how Slog is, and I’m fairly used to it by now, actually.

And really, please do go read them and leave me lots of comments because it will make me happy.
