1984 by George Orwell
You know how “Pick Your Five” is popular on Facebook right now, and one of them is called something like “5 Things I hate that everyone else seems to like”? Mine include things like running/jogging, dogs, yellow cars, etc. The book 1984 might not be in my top five of such a category, but it’s definitely up there.
I’ve tried and tried to read this book, and can’t get through it. Some people have said things like, but what about the part with the rats? To which I have to say, that I’ve never gotten that far. I might like that part, but I just can’t get to it.
And it’s not for lack of trying.
But OMG, it just starts off too slow. The whole thing about the paper moving a little tiny bit and all that bores the crap out of me.
I like dystopia novels a lot, too. But this one is just way overrated in my opinion. It’s got great concepts, it’s just not well-written.
I’ve never seen any movie versions of it. It might be a case where seeing a movie version would compel me to read the book. I don’t know.
I mean, I know that this is an important book. I do. But that doesn’t make it enjoyable. Not for me, at least.

Thanks for writing, I really enjoyed your newest post. I think you should post more often, you evidently have talent for blogging!
I just finished the audiobook, so I can’t really comment on the writing. It didn’t bother me. I hate the end. I hated the part with the rats. It depressed me to no end. But I think that is the point. Review to be up in a few days. I’m just gathering my thoughts now…
Maybe I could handle the audio book, if I were on a long and boring drive.
Can’t wait to read your review. Post it back here when you’re done!
I know you found my review already, but here it is.
I do think it’s supposed to be chilling. Some books just aren’t for everyone, so it’s all cool if you don’t like it.
And I think yellow cars are a bit weird too. Not sure I ever assigned a strong “hate” feeling to them, but there you go.
LOL, the magic of Google Reader.
