His version of Snow White is quite twisted. Who would have thought that dwarfs can kidnap her. Reading each sentence is thrilling and intense. I didn’t regret buying this book.

Yes! Enormous yes to all of the things you said, except that I didn’t like it better than I expected to like it, and I vastly prefer the characters in some of Austen’s other novels like Emma. But YES to Team Crawford, and YES to why couldn’t he be reformed? I have always felt like Jane Austen crammed in an unforgivable Crawford deed at the end there to shut up anyone who was still Team Crawford.

I read this a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty good. Not my favorite of Austen’s novels, though. I just didn’t buy the Fanny/Edmund pairing. It’s like he’s so wrapped up in Mary and then her true colors show and suddenly Fanny is awesome. I agree it was more brother/sister than romantic, but I hope to re-read this soon and maybe I will feel differently the second time around.

I absolutely love Brief Lives. It’s got the best sibling interaction between the Endless. The moment when Dream has completely collapsed, and Delirium pulls herself together long enough to console him might be my favorite thing that happens in the entire series. Plus, Destruction’s poem. Hearts.
