Tying 2 Challenges Together
I worked at a pediatric hospital for about three years, so childhood disease is particularly close to my heart. I worked mostly on the medical unit, so many of the kids I knew personally who passed away suffered from Cystic Fibrosis. But I occasionally floated up to the hem/onc unit, and we often had some of those patients on our floor when all of the beds up there were taken.
Suffice it to say, I spent a lot of time around sick kids.
That’s why I was interested right away when I saw that Wendy from Caribou’s Mom was going to host the Reading for a Cure Challenge this year.
Wendy has set this challenge up at four different levels, and no set dollar amount. She urges participants to read as much as possible during 1, 3, 6, or 12 months, and donate a certain amount for every page or book read or review written.
I’m going to combine this challenge with J. Kaye’s 100+ Books Challenge. Now, I have no illusions
that I will meet this challenge. I tend to read a lot of really long books. I’m not sure why that is, but it is what it is. Probably because I don’t read a lot of YA or “light” reads, I tend to read slower as well.
But, I’m going to try! And to add a little oomph, I’m going to commit to donating $1 per book started and finished in 2010 to the Pediatric Center Foundation.

What a great plan! I’m still trying to figure out what my contribution will be since I don’t technically have an income. Still, this is something that I just can’t pass up – especially being a parent.
THANK YOU for joining us! I am so excited about this cause and I just know that readers can have a big impact which will help children!
That is a wonderful idea. I’m going to talk to my husband and see if I can do the same thing. I can’t commit to it on my own because I don’t actually earn any money!!
Welcome to the 100+ Reading Challenge of 2010. I’m so excited to get this new year underway. I think there are going to be lots of great books published this year. And I too throw in those thin, quick reads…lol.
