Shakespeare Challenge: Because You Just Can’t Say No to the Bard
The latest challenge I’ve decided to join is the Much Ado About Shakespeare Challenge. I should be wearing my “Shakespeare Hates Your Emo Poems” shirt right now. I’ll have to put it on when I actually do this challenge.
Similar to the Everything Austen Challenge, this challenge, whilst ostensibly Shakespeare, is more Shakespearish than canonical. Meaning that films and spin-offs are A O.K.
The Challenge is being hosted over at The Little Bookworm. It runs from September 1st 2009 to April 26th, 2010 (Billy’s b’day). Pick 6 movies/books/play to watch/read/review. I’m sure that there’s some analogous theater terms like, acts, and opening night and stuff that could be used in the description here, but I just can’t make any fit. Sorry.
So, without further ado, my picks for the Much Ado About Shakespeare Challenge:
1. Read Titus Andronicus & re-watch movie version (my now husband and I used to rent this all the time when it came out in 2000, but I haven’t seen it in ages).
2. Read the Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt (I feel that I need to add more YA into my reading diet, especially when I’ve heard really good things about certain books).
3. Read the Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski (this, along with TA will have to wait at least a while, as my mom owns this book back in Michigan, where my Complete Works of Shakespeare lives).
4. Watch Ran (based on King Lear, dir. by Kurosawa)
5. See something live (hopefully in Oregon, but will settle for Seattle
but if in Oregon, than I hope to go around October and make a real weekend of it and see Paradise Lost as well)
6. Read Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev (ever since the party for those not going to Comic Con on Twitter hosted by @lisamantchev, I’ve been meaning to pick this up).
Because my mom recently said that my sister said that I’m blogging too much about challenges and not enough books, I’m going to celebrate joining this challenge by reviewing Fool by Christopher Moore, which I read a few months ago and LOVED, either today or tomorrow!

Your picks sound great! I especially like #5!!! Good luck meeting the Challenge!
Hmm, I might have to consider this challenge.
Great choices, by the way.
Do you need to sign up for Challenges Anonymous? LOL but this one looks fun.
I want a t-shirt that says “Shakespeare hates your email poems” too!
Elena, you can get it on Threadless.com, but I’m not sure if they ship to Australia!
Great! Thanks for joining the challenge!
Can’t…join…more…challenges. This one is seriously tempting, though. I look forward to your thoughts on all those books/movies!
Sounds like fun. And are you talking about the Shakespeare festival down south in OR? (The name of the town escapes me now … I’m thinking Salem but I’m thinking that isn’t right … maybe something with an A?) Anyway, I did go to that once and it was amazing!!! I went to college at the U of O in Eugene and we did a road trip down there once. Have fun with it. I like the variety of things to do.
Jenners, I live in Seattle, so I was talking about the one in Oregon. And it does start with an A, I just can’t think of what it’s called. I have, however, been to the on in Stratford, Ontario, and highly recommend that one for anyone who can make it that way. That one is only during the summer though if I recall correctly, where as the Oregon one is basically all year round.
Mari and Nymeth: give in to temptation, join with us!
