Jane Austen Challenge: Because I Need Another Challenge Like I Need a Hole in My Head

everythingausten2I convinced myself to do this challenge for three reasons:

1. It goes six months, July to January
2. I am already reading Pride & Prejudice for the Take a Chance Challenge
3. I will have the excuse to read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies as soon as I finish the *real* Pride & Prejudice

So…yeah…

Oh, and there’s prizes.  I’m kinda a sucker for prizes.  Or just free stuff in general.  It’s a hold-over from my college days, I think.  Stephanie of Stephanie’s Written Word is hosting the challenge.  There is one main prize and might be some more throughout the next six months.

The really cool thing about this challenge though is that you don’t just have to read books.  You can also watch any movie versions of Austen’s books, or books based on or influenced by her oeuvre.

So, here’s my picks:

1. Read Pride & Prejudice: As I said, I’m also reading this for the Take a Chance Challenge
2. Read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies: I can’t wait to read this.  I heart zombies (in a terrifying sort of way, of course–know thy enemy!)
3. Read Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason: I just read Bridget Jones’s Diary for the Summer Reading Challenge, and I want to read the sequel.  Ironically, I’ve not seen (all of) the movie of BJD, but have seen the movie for BJEOR.
4. Watch Lost in Austen: This is the main prize for the challenge, so I kind of hope I don’t win it.  However, I couldn’t put off watching it after seeing the movie trailer.
5. Watch Bride & Prejudice: This is the Bollywood version of Pride & Prejudice.  I’ve heard of it and been wanting to watch it.
6. Watch the movie of Persuasion: I’ve not seen it, though nor have I seen Mansfield Park or  Northanger Abbey.  However, on Amazon.com, Persuasion got 4 1/2 stars, while the other two got 3 1/2 stars and 4 stars respectively, so that made my decision for me.

I’ll probably watch the movies while my husband is out of town camping or on business.  The only way I’d get him to watch any of these with me is if we watched the P&P movie featuring Kiera Knightly or if they make a P&P&Z movie by the end of the challenge.

O.K., I’ve decided that there’s just too much P&P on my list, so instead of Bride & Prejudice, I’ll be watching Becoming Jane…Plus I’m at the library right now and they happen to have the copy (you should have seen the vultures swoop on the reshelving cart–I missed Persuasion, but got Becoming Jane!).
