Even More Challenges!
I swear to God, I am almost done signing up for challenges. Here’s three more:
Royal Reviews has taken over the Audio Book Challenge from J. Kaye. There’s four levels of participation: Curious, Fascinated, Addicted, and Obsessed. I’m going for Addicted, which means listening to 12 audiobooks because I’m trying to listen to more of them.
I have a few that I haven’t listened to that I’ve either won or picked up used for cheap.
For the rest of my list, I looked at my books for challenges and looked up online which ones my library had on CD that I don’t own in print format.
So here’s my list:
The Great Transformation: The Beginning of Our Religious Traditions by Karen Armstrong
The Namesake by Jumpa Lahiri
Ravens by George Dawes Green
Wake Up: A Life of the Buddha by Jack Kerouac
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
The White Tiger: A Novel by Aravind Adiga
Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas by Elaine Pagels
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
Sarah by Marek Halter
The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie
The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution by Richard Dawkins
Royal Reviews has also taken over the 2nds challenge, which is to read the second novel in a series or to read an author you’ve only read once before. They have the same levels as above, and again I’m shooting for Obsessed, which is to read 12.
Looking at my Challenge lists, I only have eleven that qualify so far, but I’m sure more will come up. Here’s my list as of now:
Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger
Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas by Elaine Pagels
The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie
The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution by Richard Dawkins
Silence by Shusaku Endo
Wake Up: A Life of the Buddha OR The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac (whichever I read first)
The Valley of Horses by Jean Auel
The Namesake by Jumpa Lahiri
Angel: After the Fall, Vol. 2: First Night by Joss Whedon, et al.
God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut
So, as I was grabbing the buttons for the above challenges on Royal Reviews, I came across the Fantasy Challenge, and I thought, hey, I could do that. I’m going with the fascinated level, which means reading six. Here’s my list:
The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Eyes Like Stars: Theatre Illuminata, Act I by Lisa Mantchev
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Fallen by Lauren Kate
Angel: After the Fall, Vol. 2: First Night by Joss Whedon, et al
The Long Way Home (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8, Vol. 1) by Joss Whedon, et al.
The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde
The next Wheel of Time book (not sure what it will be called, but it’s supposed to come out in 2010)
This is sort of a monthly challenge. Amy, Hannah, and Natasha have joined forces to host the Social Justice Challenge, which not only involves reading but DOING.
Luckily, you don’t have to sign up for the same level of participation each month, you can just play it by ear, as some months you may just want to be an “observer” and read everyone else’s blog posts.
Here’s the list of the monthly topics:
- Religious Freedom
- Water
- Domestic Violence and Child Abuse
- Hunger
- AIDS crisis
- Genocide
- Poverty
- Illiteracy and Education
- Modern Day Slavery
- Homelessness & Refugees
- Women’s Rights
- Child Soldiers and Children in War

You’ve signed up for some good challenges. I also joined the Social Justice Challenge. I think it’s a great idea!
I know. I keep joining challenges too.
Great reading challenges ahead! Have fun, fun, fun!
You’ve got a serious case of Challenge fever!
Her Fearful Symmetry is on my list of two of these: I plan on listening to the audiobook once I finish my current one (Needful Things by Stephen King) and it’s only the second book I’ll have read of hers. Win/win.
I wish I had time to work challenges, but I do so love reading about other people’s time with them.
I love audio books…maybe I will join that one too!
such pretty icons for these challenges. very tempting.
LOL I know the feeling. I think I am signing up for this one too.
