And Still the Challenge Posts Continue…
So, remember that one time that I posted about what *might* be the last of the 2010 challenges I’d be signing up for, and then the next day posted about more challenges? Yeah, ’cause that’s right now.
Earlier today, I asked Nymeth if anyone was going to host a Graphic Novel Challenge this coming year. She said that she and Chris were working on it, and then what do you know? She went and posted about it and got the sign up page up and you can all thank me, ye who read graphic novels (I’m looking in a Southwesterly direction at you, Elena) for this.
There are three levels of participation: read 3, 3-10, or greater than 10 graphic novels.
I’m going to join at the intermediate level. I want to add more graphic novels to my literary diet, but I don’t know if I’ll read more than to. However, I do so love Buffy/Angel, and as of right now have only read the first of the Angel: After the Fall volumes, and none of Buffy, so if they’re counted separately, I might make it just with them alone.
Here’s my tentative list:
The Long Way Home (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8, Vol. 1)
Angel: After the Fall, Vol. 2: First Night
The Sandman Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes
The Vietnam War: A Graphic History
Watchmen
Embroideries
The 9/11 Report: A Graphic Adaptation
Palestine
American Born Chinese
I’ve got my eye on a few others as well…And I’m open to suggestions!
The What’s in a Name Challenge has been whispering to me over teh internets and I have finally succumbed. Beth, who is hosting this one for the first time this year, came up with 6 categories, and you must find books with titles to match.
Here’s my list thus far:
A book with FOOD in the title:
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
A book with a BODY OF WATER in the title:
God Dies by the Nile OR Wide Sargasso Sea
A book with a TITLE in the title:
Pope Joan
A book with a PLANT in the title:
Saffron Dreams
A book with a PLACE in the title:
The Enchantress of Florence
A book with a MUSIC TERM in the title:
Songs in Ordinary Time
I’m going to join the Time Travel Challenge because I plan on reading
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells anyways, and I already have a copy and it’s a novella and so maybe I won’t get to it until next fall when the November Novella Challenge comes around again, but I might as well sign up now.
Should I just so happen to read any other books with time travel themes, I’ll add them to my list, but Alyce, the hostess, requires us to do read however many we want.
I’m planning on reading Drifters sometime soon, so I figured I’d join Michelle’s Michener Challenge. It’s perpetual, so why not join?

I’m so excited to see the graphic novel challenge! It’s funny because just tonight I went through and finalized my list of challenge reads for next year. I won’t make any promises to anyone, but I’m pretty sure the graphic novel challenge will be the last I sign up for.
Thanks for joining the Time Travel challenge! I hope that you enjoy The Time Machine. It’s been years since I’ve read it, but I liked it.
Ok, I’m a liar already. I just saw your post about the non-fiction challenge and realized that it works really well with other books that I want to read. So two more challenges, and that’s all – I’m sure of it!
Ok, don’t mind me. I saw an old post about the non-fiction challenge. I thought there was a new non-fiction challenge up for 2010 that I didn’t know about yet. Silly me!
lol
We had the button ready and had been meaning to announce it for ages, but you reminded me that while I don’t have admin rights to the challenge blog yet, I CAN post to it. Thanks for joining
You picked some great challenges — I love that GN button! Anyway, Welcome to the What’s in a Name 3 challenge. I’m really happy you decided to join in. I like the books you’ve picked out.
Did you get my email about the read-along? Haven’t heard back from you.
You do have a ton of challenges! WOW! I like the addition of The Vietnam War: A Graphic History to the graphic novels challenge!
Thanks for signing up girl! I’m still planning on doing your World Religion challenge…I actually have some great books in my personal library that will work great for it. Just have to get organized!
I am making some smaller buttons for The Michener Challenge. If you need one, check back at the blog.
Ooohhhh, I may have to consider that graphic novel challenge!!!
You have zero self-control when it comes to challenges!! : )
I love the “What’s In A Name Challenge” concept…and we’ll both be reading “The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie.” So that is at least 2 books we’ll have in common next year.
Never fear, I’ve got the same challenge sickness you have. I have a feeling we’re not the only ones
Hey, bring it on, right? I have signed up for a lot of challenges, too. This year I am not going to freak out about finishing them all but just having fun reading books I might not otherwise pick up. Good luck on your challenges and have fun reading!
