Sense & Sensibility Mini-Series

senseandsensI think that part of the reason that this story has always appealed to me, is that I am Margaret Dashwood.  I have two sisters much older than me, and I used to ask their boyfriends idiotic questions, like, are you guys going to get married?

Miss Austen Regrets

MissAustenRegrets_LRGOh how infinitely better Miss Austen Regrets was than Becoming Jane. Taking place later in the authoress’s life, she attempts to sort out her past decisions and give love advice to her niece.

All the Kings Men: the movie

Atkm-posterIf you recall, I said of the book All the Kings Men by Robert Penn Warren that it was “an epic, character-driven, beautifully-written, philosophical, sad, political, morally-ambiguous, expertly-foreshadowed, thematic, hard to get immersed in, dramatic, ironic, difficult, sweeping book.”

The Jane Austen Trilogy

51HHpi4Lm3L._SL500_AA240_I give this three DVD set a solid meh.  I espied it at the library and thought I’d give it a whirl for the Everything Austen Challenge.  Having watched all 180 minutes of it last night, I want at least 120 of those minutes back.

Mansfield Park (the Movie)

mansfield-park-posters-19991If you take Jane Austen’s book, Mansfield Park, take out the heroine, Fanny Price, and insert Jane from the movie Becoming Jane, you get this film version of Mansfield Park.  I’m not saying that that’s a bad thing.  It just is what it is.

Into the Wild: The Movie

dvoquooxptnttp_lPoints of interest: Emile Hirsch lost 40 lbs for this movie.  The soundtrack is not entirely Eddie Veddar, for example there is a scene with (German?) tourists (one only in her underwear the entire scene) in which MC Hammer is playing.  And that’s about it.  Nothing else.

Persuasion

PersuasionA few nights ago I watched Persuasion for the Everything Austen Challenge.  I didn’t know anything about it going in, except that the love interest was in the navy (Stop it Village People!  Get out of my head!).

Becoming Jane

Becoming JaneLast week I watched Becoming Jane for Stephanie’s Everything Austen Challenge.  I’ll be totally candid in saying that if it weren’t for this challenge, I probably wouldn’t have watched it.
